What is Makaton?
Makaton is a language programme which is made up of signs, symbols and speech. It helps people to communicate and develop essential communication skills.
Communicating is a daily essential and one of the most important skills we all need. Makaton helps to improve communications through signs and some speech. It can be very frustrating for individuals who struggle verbally to get their point or questions across.
Over 100,000 children and adults use Makaton signs for both their main form of communication or along side their communication skills. As the numbers of individuals are using Makaton to help support their day to day communication with family, friends, colleagues or through learning, it is also increasingly used by the general public.
