Pride month was established on 28th June 1969. On this night the Police raided the Stonewall Inn – gay club, in New York which caused a riot.
The riot lasted for 6 days and was led by Marsha P. Johnson, a black, trans, bisexual who stood up for who she is which led to help form LGBTQ+
The first gay pride in America was June 1970 and recognition by US President Bill Clinton which continued in the 90’s and 00’s
Pride is so much more than the glitter and colourful flags – the initial message behind pride is to achieve equality and fair opportunities for all races, gender and sexuality.
Pride month is a chance for people of the LGBTQI+ community to use their voice and help to normalise this community and their diversity.
