Know your numbers week!
4th – 10th September
Having high blood pressure is also known as the silent killer because having high BP often has no symptoms. Having your BP checked can reduce the chances of strokes and heart disease. It is encouraged every September for people of all ages to have it checked and help to manage it as early as possible.
Every day over 300 people have a stroke or heat attack which could have been avoided with the right treatment and early intervention. An ideal blood pressure is around 120/80 yet 6 million people in the UK do not realise they have high blood pressure.
1.5 million people have had free blood pressure check during the annual ‘know your numbers week’. Knowing your numbers from blood pressure to height and weight will help you to take the right steps in to leading a long and healthy life.
If you want your blood pressure taken, you do not have to wait until know your numbers week. Your local pharmacist can take your blood pressure and most Surgeries have a self check BP machine in the Reception waiting area.
