World Suicide Prevention Day

10th September 2024

Suicide rates have been closely monitored for a number of years and the results have been varied due to unavoidable events which have had a impacted individuals mental health. For example. The cost of living and Covid-19. These are the most major recent events that have impacted all of our mental wellbeing.

Every year on 10th September, UK and Ireland come together to raise awareness around mental health and preventing suicide. In the UK men are 3 times more likely to die to suicide than women and in the Republic of Ireland men are 4 times more likely to die through suicide than woman.

The past 10 years have seen the amount of deaths by suicide reduce. However, the number is still a major concern.

The prevention day combines the government, individuals and organisations giving them all a chance to openly discuss the prevention of suicide. It allows them all as a team to promote any helpful organisations that individuals can reach out to in their time of crisis.
